Literacy

Financial Literacy

A working and implementable plan to obtain and manage personal finances is vitally important to a family’s survival and success.  For employers, a financially healthy employee will be more productive which ultimately saves the employer money. It doesn’t take an accountant to understand and manage personal finances, just accurate information in an implementable plan that you can understand. Our mission is to equip individuals within our service area with the necessary tools to become more effective in combating economic disparities as it relates to affordable housing, transportation, medical care, and overall financial stability.

Our workshop is divided into 3 phases: Basic Financial Knowledge & Terminology, Budgeting & Tracking Expenses, and Understanding Credit; each presented in a weekly format on a monthly schedule. The goal is to teach an individual what affects their paycheck in real terms, and that knowledge will aid them in being better able to make financially responsible decisions.

Computer Literacy

This program was developed to address the overwhelming need for computer-based education within low-income communities.  Computers are mainstream in our everyday lives and vital to education, employment, communication, finance management and social contact. Computer literacy, the ability to use computers and related technology efficiently is a very important skill to possess in our society.  Employers have started to utilize computers in every aspect of employment management from the application process to the carrying out of daily job skills.

Our workshop will focus on Basic Computer Skills, Computer Vocabulary, Opening and Saving Files, Internet Usage, Faxing and Scanning Documents and Microsoft based programs. It is offered in a weekly format on a monthly schedule with weekday and weekend class availability.

Self-Sufficiency

Support Services/ Resources

Our program assists in connecting families with support services that they may not have everyday access to or cannot financially afford.  Our local communities often include many of the following: low income, low level of education, disrupted home and family life, low level of job skills and employment and experience, and alcohol or drug addiction.  Aside from medical, mental health, and substance abuse treatment, the key service requirements for those returning to the local community are related to immediate basic needs (food, shelter, clothing), ongoing personal support, housing, education, employment, and legal assistance.  We have collaborated with multiple social services networks who have graciously offered their support for such an important endeavor.  We also purpose to provide much needed transportation to and from job interviews, counseling sessions, family gathering, etc.
